The Power Duo W5-2106 is one of the finer designs of its kind from Blue Planet Acoustics. "Finer" in the sense of: more demure, pleasant, suitable for many types of music, and over a longer period of time. The almost baffle-free fifteen inch speaker surprises again: Actually, it should not produce any bass worth mentioning at all, but in practice it does. And it's the kind of bass we like: extremely tight, contoured and substantial. And completely free of cabinet-related delay and thickening effects. Yes, you can generate considerably more bass volume with a driver like this, but whether it will sound as solid is seriously doubtful. The five-inch driver is neatly adapted to the big cardboard. It has all the merits of a driver like this: an expansive stage image and a very stable placement of the elements in the room - this works perfectly with such a construction. The energy in the vocal range is also seductive, considering the large diaphragm area. The "Breiti" has its limits in the presence range: if you overdo it with the level, female vocals in particular don't sound quite as friendly. As the practical test just now proved, it is definitely not possible to communicate with the photographer who just entered the listening room at this volume. At the very top, the W5-2106 is quite restrained, which goes quite well with the voluminous, but not ultra-low bass. Open baffle for friends of a slightly English sound? But definitely! Holger Barske
