Test in Sound and Tone 2/2021

Sound The small monitors completed the sound check in the now proven location next to my good old Yamaha Pianocraft mini system. They were fed with all kinds of material between YouTube postings, Bandcamp streams, music from the NAS and vinyl. After I had gotten used to the rather considerable difference in level to the standard vintage JBLs inhabiting the space and had made sure by carefully turning up the volume that the small Omnes speakers would not immediately break down if they were to play something at a higher room volume, I slowly started to feel comfortable with the little ones. In the presence range it sounds quite pithy, but not annoying, which can be heard especially with drum cymbals. The top end sounds pleasingly complete, rather minimally mellow than overdone, as the measurement specification might have suggested. There's not really any bass, but an idea of upper bass. That's quite enough to get a complete impression of the running music. The small presence peak can also be heard to a limited extent in pure speech reproduction. The tonality is best for my taste when the speakers are placed in parallel, but you are welcome to find your personal "favorite angle". Fascinating is what the small full range driver can generate in terms of room imaging: At moderate distances between the speakers and the listener, it can open up large and deep stages that you would never believe the little Böx would be able to do - but that's just pure full range. And after enjoying the complete excellent YouTube stream "Five Hours Of Relaxing Psychedelic Space Rock", I dare to say: This is long-time capable.
