Thiel Audio from Lexington (USA) have a fantastic coherent transducer that motivated us to offer these high quality transducers from the retail speaker market to the DIY'er. The problem with multi-way boxes is that the soundstage falls apart due to the placement of the chassis next to (as with most multi-ways) or in front of one another (as with most coaxial chassis).

The Thiel is a coherent transducer, in other words the two chassis are in phase from every angle.

In the center of the woofer's cone lies the tweeter - protected by a grill. The membrane has a relatively flat profile in order to minimize any negative impact on the tweeter response. The tweeter has a +/-2 mm linear excursion which is the longest we know of among tweeters.
Impregnations on the cone help add to the stiffness of the relatively flat cone. The rear of the aluminum cone is dampened with a Styrofoam layer. The gap of the woofer is 12mm long in which the 6 mm long voice coil moves.
